Coco before Chanel

The movie I look forward to in the Jakarta international film festival starting this week.

In this film, we can witness the early years of Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel (Audrey Tautou - Amelie, The DaVinci Code), the woman who turned fashion inside out by creating clothes for women that allowed for movement and freedom. From her orphanage years right until her early empire days, the film exemplifies the agony and struggle of the most important person in fashion history.

Java jazz, one of the biggest jazz festival in the world

This year festival features Jason Mraz, Swing out sister, Brian McKnight, Matt Bianco, New York voice, Dianne Reeves, Quasimode from Japan amongst the many international stars coming in Jakarta this long weekend of 6, 7, 8 March 2009.

I went only on the second day of this great festival because of flu and all.

It's getting popular and feels like there's more crowd. The organiser is thinking to relocate for next year.

A long weekend beckons, and it is such a great coincidence that the annual Java Jazz Festival is coming around at the same time. This year’s event offers a rich lineup, with more than 180 performances involving more than 1,000 local and overseas musicians on 19 different stages.

This year’s festival features collaborations between local and overseas musicians, such as that between Jason Mraz, 2005 Indonesian Idol winner Mike Mohede and indie jazz singer Dira.
